Morse Code QR Generator

Generates a QR code for your Morse message entirely in this browser (no external service). Short messages work best; the QR payload is limited to 200 characters.

About this tool

This generator makes a QR code whose payload is your message in Morse Code. Type a message, press Generate QR, and a QR code appears that any camera app can scan — and what it contains is the dot-and-dash version of your message, not the plain text. Download it as a PNG and you can print it, stick it on a card, use it in a puzzle, or share it anywhere a QR code works.

Why would anyone want a QR code that contains Morse instead of plain text? Mostly for fun and for puzzles. A QR code is already a kind of secret writing — a pattern most people cannot read by eye — and putting Morse inside it adds a second layer: the scanner reveals dots and dashes, and only someone who can read Morse, or who uses the decoder on this site, can read the message itself. That makes it a neat trick for treasure hunts, escape rooms, birthday cards, classroom activities and geocaching clues, where the point is to make the finder work a little for the answer.

The QR code is generated entirely in your browser, with no external service involved. That matters for two reasons: your message is never sent anywhere, and the QR code works even if you are offline once the page has loaded. The encoder uses byte mode with error correction level L and supports versions 1 to 9, which is why short messages work best — the payload is limited to 200 characters of Morse, and longer messages simply will not fit in the smaller, easier-to-scan codes this generator produces.

Keep your messages short and test the result before you print it. Scan the QR code with your own phone first and check that the payload reads as the Morse you expected, then decode it on the Morse to Text page if you want to be sure. A QR code that looks fine but contains a typo is worse than no QR code at all, especially in a puzzle where the solver has no way to know the code itself was wrong.

How to use it

  1. Type your message in the box — short messages work best.
  2. Press Generate QR to create the code in your browser.
  3. Scan it with your phone camera to check the Morse payload.
  4. Press Download QR (PNG) to save it for printing or sharing.

Frequently asked questions

What does the QR code contain?

Your message encoded in Morse Code. Scanning it shows dots and dashes, which you can decode on the Morse to Text page.

Is my message sent to a server?

No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser with no external service, and nothing you type leaves your device.

Why is there a 200-character limit?

The generator uses QR versions 1 to 9 with error correction level L. Longer Morse payloads do not fit those versions, so short messages scan most reliably.

Can I print the QR code?

Yes. Download it as a PNG and print it on a card, worksheet or poster. Test it by scanning it yourself before you hand it out.

What can I use a Morse QR code for?

Treasure hunts, escape rooms, classroom activities, birthday cards and geocaching clues — anywhere you want the message to need a second step to read.
